Hello, world!

What did you do on your summer vacation?

I

1. Didn’t read blogs.

2. Didn’t write blog posts.

3. Wrote a book.

4. Edited a 4oo-page book. Twice.

5. Incubated a baby.

6. Moved.

7. Watched lots of rainstorms and sunsets from my patio while looking up at this:

(No, this isn’t my actual view, but almost. I’m too lazy to go down to the garage and get the camera out of the hospital overnight bag that has been sitting in my trunk for a WEEK.)

8. Read Protecting the Gift by Gavin de Becker.

9. Read Entwined by Heather Dixon.

10. Read Matched by Ally Condie.

11. Dreamed about food almost every night and spent almost every day on a quest for that particular food.

12. Attended WIFYR.

13. Checked my alternate email account and deleted 1,200 emails without reading them. Hopefully that’s not the email account you use to reach me.

14. Compiled a five-page list of baby names and scrapped it and started over.

15. Tasted artisan cheeses at Heber Valley Milk. Good stuff.

All in all, it was a satisfying summer, but I missed you.

I know that summer isn’t quite over, but August has never felt like summer to me—it’s kind of a rip-off. I mean, Mr. R starts school in two weeks. School and summer do not belong in the same month.

At least it’s fun to be shopping for cheap pens and highlighters again.

In the comments, please tell me what you’ve been up to, what your favorite summer reads were, and what your favorite school supplies are to buy when the fall sales start. And also, do you ever dream about mashed potatoes and move heaven and earth the next day to have some? Or is that a pregnant lady thing?

  1. I didn’t have weird cravings, but there were some foods that would coat my tongue with a nasty aftertaste that would NOT go away.

My favorite read this summer? EVERNEATH. (I’m sure you understand why.)

    Glad you’re back!

I’m just finishing up “Ghengis Kahn and the Making of the Modern World”. It is really interesting- I never knew about the Mongul empire- how big it was and etc. As for favorite school supplies, I stock up on crayons and markers for the kiddos. Lily has a real school supply list this year, so that will be fun to shop for…

And yes, I totally dream about food and try to have some when I’m craving it. Sucks that I’m 1000 miles away from everything good that I know :)

You mean you haven’t gone on a quest for Ethiopian food yet? Probably only ice cream sounds good in Texas this time of year.

I hear there is Ethiopian food somewhere, but I haven’t encountered it in the 2 mile radius from our house and no one has the shnergans to venture farther (Well, Dave does, but just to work and home). Maybe when it’s cooler???

BTW_ you should be more careful with blog titles when you are ready to have a baby any day. I see your blog title on the side of mine and I KNOW I’ve read and even commented on it, but I still think- Is this a meet little baby Reid post?

    • Kim Reid

Yeah, I guess I’m kind of a jerk because I did it on purpose. You should see my readership spike! ha ha ha! Jk. I don’t plan to do a “welcome baby Reid” post, really, other than to say when I’ve had the kid, because I don’t like to put kids’ pictures on the Internet.

  4. Glad you’re back. Mmm cheese tasting. Now I have to go get some. Mashed potatoes sound good too. You should stop talking about food to other pregnant ladies.

  5. Yum! I need to try the Heber Valley cheese! I’ve had a fantastic summer. I’ve incubated a book, though, and it’s due next month and I’m exhausted. We should get together for lunch soon. I miss you and need to catch up!

  6. Went to ireland, glacier, gained a few vacation pounds, finish rough version of my novel, helped with a family reunion, and decided to be a girl scout troop leader for some man reason
